Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

Before we schedule your first session, I offer a free 15-minute consultation call so you can ask questions and I can assess what’s going on.

After that, here’s a full breakdown of my session fees:

  • $200 for adult first session (75 mins)

  • $225 for minor first session (90 mins)

  • $145 for ongoing 55-minute sessions

  • $175 for extended 75-minute sessions (optional, based on need or request)

  • Phone calls, consultations with other professionals, or meetings you request that exceed 15 minutes are billed at the same rate as sessions. I'll always discuss this with you in advance and give you a cost estimate so you won’t be surprised.

I accept cash, checks, all major credit cards, and most HSA cards.

Need financial support? Some churches offer benevolence funds to support members in counseling. If you’d like to request assistance from your church, I provide a form for them and you to fill out. Before scheduling your first session, I’ll need confirmation from you and your church that your church will help cover the cost. Once that’s confirmed and the form is completed and sent to me, you can schedule your intake session.

What goes into the cost of counseling?

The cost of your session not only covers my time and expertise for you (both inside of and outside of your session!), but the money it costs to keep up with my professional licensure, ongoing professional education, and running a private practice business that serves clients with excellence.

Good Faith Policy

Per a 2021 federal law, all clients have the right to know the cost of counseling before starting counseling. Please refer to this link for more information: http://www.cms.gov/nosurprises

Since my practice is private pay (out-of-network), there are no hidden fees or unexpected bills. You pay for sessions as you receive them.

I’ll also collaborate with you regarding your sessions, your progression, how often we meet, and what other support you may need along the way.

You’re free to terminate or pause therapy at any time.

Do you take my insurance?

No. I don’t take insurance directly, but I can provide you with a superbill upon request – a special receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement.

Every insurance plan is different, so it’s worth calling your provider to ask about out-of-network coverage. I recommend doing this early in your counseling search so you can make the most informed decision.

Here are a few helpful questions to ask your insurance provider:

  • Do I have mental health coverage for out-of-network providers?

  • What’s my reimbursement rate per session?

  • What diagnosis or billing codes should I request from my therapist?

  • What’s my deductible and copay?

  • Is there a yearly session limit?

  • Do I need a referral from my primary doctor?

How do I know I need counseling?

  • Grief

  • Singleness

Sometimes you might not even know what to call “it.You’re tired, worn out, and you just need a safe space to process. That’s what I’m here for, too! I’ll help you sort through all those feelings and practice healthy growth habits. If needed, I’ll direct you to more specialized resources and people who can join your support system, too.

Do I need to be “spiritual” to receive counseling for OCD or other struggles?

Not at all. Wherever you are at spiritually – whether deeply in tune with your faith, wrestling with doubts, questioning everything, or not religious at all – you are welcome here.

My counseling combines proven clinical techniques with a Biblical worldview, but that doesn’t mean I expect you to believe the same things I do. This is a safe space for your stories, questions, and experiences.

My goal is NOT to preach at you or pressure you into a certain belief system. I’m here to walk through your unique situation with compassion and give you useful tools that apply best to YOU.

How often do I need counseling?

Short answer: That’s completely up to you! You will get out of this process what YOU put into it and what YOU choose to do with it outside of our sessions.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. In some seasons, you might need weekly support. Other times, you might only need a check-in every so often.

When we’re just starting out, I typically recommend meeting weekly for the first 3-4 sessions. It helps build safety, consistency, and expectations as we get to know each other and uncover the root issue.

From there, we’ll decide together what pace suits your goals best. Most people need at least 8 sessions to see real, lasting progress, especially once we start doing deeper work. Some clients need to see me for a few focused months. Others stay consistent longer or check in whenever they need to.

My door is always open to you! We’re partners in this process of healing, and I’m here to best serve YOU.

What if I’m not sure what I’m struggling with?

You might be going through a transition or a tough season and need a safe place to “let your hair down.” Maybe you need someone outside of your circle with whom you can be fully transparent. That’s what I’m here for! I’ll be a listening ear, help you sift through feelings and layers, name what’s going on, and find a practical, holistic path to health.

What can I expect in my first session?

My goal in the first session is to help you feel seen, safe, and understood. There’s no pressure to come in with anything figured out. I’ll ask questions to understand your story, symptoms, background, and what’s weighing heavily on your heart. We’ll discuss what counseling might look like moving forward and answer any questions you have.

When do you offer appointments?

I offer in-person and virtual sessions Monday through Thursday, with all appointments scheduled during daytime hours.

All new client intake sessions (75-90 minutes) are held during daytime hours only, typically at or before 4:30 PM. Early evening spots fill quickly with my current clients, so you may experience a wait to get into an evening spot.

My latest slots are:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: last appointment at 5:00 PM

  • Wednesday: last appointment at 5:30 PM

Since I also write, teach, and equip churches, ministries, and counseling groups across the DFW area, I intentionally limit my caseload to serve you with excellence and care for my own personal and professional health.

Do you partner with churches for mental health education and awareness?

Yes! This is a BIG part of my passion and calling! I regularly partner with pastors and ministry leaders to equip the church with practical tools and a Biblical, clinically informed approach to mental health.

I want to shed light on “hidden” mental health issues within Christian circles, empowering you with confidence, empathy, and practical tools to care for your people well. I offer OCD resources, speaking engagements, workshops, and Q&A sessions to inform, educate, and equip your ministry.

How do you integrate both Scripture and clinical tools into your sessions?

Every client is different, so my approach depends entirely on you and what you need at this time.

We’ll start by creating a safe space and finding some initial relief from the pain you’re carrying. That alone creates hope and courage.

From there, if you’re open to it, I gently share Biblical truth and spiritual themes as we walk through your story. I never lead with topics of sin or correction, but honor your suffering and the experiences that shaped you. Sometimes we uncover places where we need to reframe truth, but we do it slowly, holistically, and with close attention to the root issues.

I equally integrate proven clinical techniques to help you find freedom. Coupled with Scripture, these strategies give you a strong, dependable foundation to stand on as you learn new perspectives, habits, and tools to help you heal.

For Spiritual Shepherds

If you’re carrying the weight of someone else’s mental well-being, I’m so glad you’re here! Many faithful leaders are eager to help, but without an informed understanding of mental health, they can unintentionally cause harm. Some quietly tiptoe around these issues while others speak out boldly, not realizing how their efforts often entrench someone’s struggle.

I’m here to help you feel confident and equipped to support those in your care struggling with mental health. I offer clinically informed, Biblically grounded speaking engagements, free educational meetings, and trustworthy resources for OCD, anxiety, and other “hidden” issues that surface in faith-based contexts.

If you’re concerned about referring someone whose faith is fragile or who’s been hurt in church contexts, I approach each person with sensitivity and grace. My goal is never to force theology, convictions, or a certain mindset on my clients, but to create a safe space where they can be brutally honest and learn to grow from their hurt.

At the same time, you can be confident that my counseling is rooted in the truth of God’s Word. I hold to the core tenets of the Christian faith, and I integrate Biblical truth alongside sound clinical care.

How do you handle church hurt in a safe, non-triggering way?

Short answer: very gently and at your pace. If you’ve experienced spiritual abuse, manipulation, or hurt in a church setting, I want you to know your story is safe here.

We start by carefully exploring where you ARE spirituallynot where you “should” be or want to be. I’ll listen to how Scripture was misused in your past, help you name your burdens, and hold space for your anger, grief, or confusion. Together, we’ll tenderly sort and sift through your story, without any pressure for you to reach a certain spiritual place.

I’m slow to offer spiritual advice or quote Scripture, especially when those very things may be a source of pain. We’ll take our time to rebuild trust and move towards freedom without any pressure or rush.

I equally serve pastors and ministry leaders in the DFW area by offering:

  • Speaking engagements and workshops on navigating religious OCD and mental health struggles within the church

  • Coming soon: free, live educational meetings for pastors and ministry leaders to learn practical, informed ways to support members struggling with mental health. These gatherings are purely educational. They are not case consultations or legal advice, but a great opportunity to ask questions, learn from trusted experts, and meet other leaders navigating similar challenges.

  • Trustworthy resources to help churches and leaders confidently recognize symptoms, respond appropriately, and refer when needed

  • Benevolence paperwork for churches interested in funding a percentage or the entirety of a member’s counseling.

Note for Spiritual Shepherds on church hurt

If someone in your congregation or flock has been hurt by the Church – even if it wasn’t your church – it can feel intimidating to know how to respond. There’s a strong tension of wanting to help, but not knowing what to say without making things worse.

Spiritual trauma and church-related wounds require a tender, informed approach. If you’re unsure how to walk through these issues, I’d love to partner with you and help you feel more equipped to navigate this topic well.
